VENOM ”SUNRISE FESTIVAL, MULHOUSE, FRANCE” (SEPTEMBER 10, 1983)

Text and photos courtesy of The Power Age:

On September 10, 1983, in Mulhouse, France, the Sunrise Festival was canceled due to a combination of a storm and poor organization. The bands scheduled to play that weekend were Blue Öyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Mama's Boys, Diamond Head, Twisted Sister, Anvil, Triumph, and Fargo.

Rather than staying in the muddy campground, my brother Pierre and I decided to head to one of the hotels where the bands were staying. There, we met Eric Bloom, all the members of Black Sabbath, Dee Snider and his crew, the guys from Anvil, Lemmy (who was at pretty much every festival back then), and… VENOM!

Yet Venom wasn’t even on the lineup. They were probably there as a replacement for another band.

The Venom guys were AMAZING to us. They invited us to their room, we had a great time drinking and laughing together, and they even asked us to join them for lunch downstairs.

So that’s the context in which these three questionnaires were filled out.
