ETERNAL (MEX) ”ABISMO DE SUEÑOS” [CD/TAPE] 1994

GENRE: Death/Doom Metal
COUNTRY: Mexico
YEAR: 1994
STAND-OUT TRACK(S): Deidades Muertas, Devastación Brutal

This Mexican doom/death metal band was formed as Inceinerador in the town of Tlalnepantla but changed name to Eternal in 1993. Their first demo as Eternal caught the attention of the small independent label Celeste Metal that got the band into a studio to record their debut album, Abismo De Suenos, that was released later in 1994.

The album got good reviews and the band did a lot of gigs after the album was released but just months later the band did several line-up changes before recording a second full length album, Santa Sangre. However the band split up in September of 1995 before the second album ever got released and the Santa Sangre studio recording is now said to be lost forever.

OPINION: This is the bands only release. It was released on CD and tape in 1994, and didn’t get a vinyl release until 2019. I really like the atmosphere created here. Some of you might know that I love Spanish, although I don’t know more than 5-10 words and here it really fits again. Maybe some Doom purists will complain about the keyboards, but personally I think it gives a great menacing atmosphere. Especially when you get that ”churchy-feeling”.
