Grave, one of the bigger names in Swedish Death Metal history. They became Grave in 1988 and were from Visby on the beautiful island of Gotland outside the eastcoast of Sweden.
The group was already active from 1984 under the names Destroyer, Anguish and Rising Power (after a song by AC/DC), and initially played heavy metal. When they released their first demo under the name Corpse in 1986, the music had developed towards more extreme death metal. As Grave they released their first demo, Sick Disgust Eternal in 1988. The band then consisted of Jörgen Sandström on vocals, guitar and bass, Ola Lindgren on guitar and Jens Paulsson on drums. Together with bassist Jonas Edwardsson they also recorded the demo Painful Death, then under the band name Putrefaction.

Grave then signed a contract with Century Media who released the band's first full-length album Into the Grave in August 1991. The album was recorded at Sunlight Studios and produced by Tomas Skogsberg. Into the Grave was well received and the band toured Europe with Florida-based Malevolent Creation and later with Swedish Entombed.
OPINION: I love Swedish Death Metal, I love Grave and singer Jörgen Sandström is one of the nicest guys I ever meet. With that said I don’t think this one reaches the heights of much of the bands other releases. Don’t get me wrong, it’s GREAT but not perfect as the debut album. Still a must have!
