HALLOWEEN “DON’T METAL WITH EVIL” [LP] 1985

GENRE: Heavy Metal
COUNTRY: US
YEAR: 1985
STAND-OUT TRACK(S): Busted, Don’t Metal With Evil, I Confess, Justice for All.

First off, this Halloween is from the US, so not to be confused with the German band Helloween. Halloween was formed in 1981 under the name Bitch, which included current vocalist Brian Thomas from a band called Alcatraz (not the Graham Bonnett/Malmsteen band), Rick Craig from the band Limousine, bassist Ed Reynolds, guitarist Mark Scott and future Seduce drummer Chuck Burns.

Reynolds did not play any show with Bitch, for he was booted and replaced by George Neal. In 1983 on Halloween night, Bitch officially became Halloween when they played their final show at the Falcon Lounge.
Drummer Chuck Burns left, and guitarist Mark Scott took over the drumming helm. He soon left, citing personal issues and was replaced by Bill Whyte of Detroit-based band Nightmare, which featured Eddie Hillman of The Meanies and Erebus. This line-up went to record their debut album, Don't Metal With Evil, at the Disc Ltd Studios in East Detroit in late ’83.

The initial sessions were aborted and were soon begun over in early '84, which ended up becoming the final product. The album came out in 1984 on cassette only, but was picked up by a local distributor in '85 and was released on higher quality cassettes as well as vinyl. According to the band, 7000 copies were pressed on vinyl. In 1998 it was released on CD for the first time.

One (beautifully cheesy) music video for “What a Nice Place” was recorded from the album.

OPINION: Not that much to say about it, other than that I love this album, and if it had held up all the way as it started it would have been a classic “PERFECTION” album in my book.
