From the private collection of Fredrik "Fredda” Lindgren (R.I.P.)
Pelle "Dead" Ohlin from Morbid moved to Norway in 1988 to become the singer of Mayhem. During a visit home in Stockholm, he went to Fredrik "Fredda” Lindgren (played guitar on Unleashed’s first four albums). In his boy's room, Fredda took this picture of Pelle, who today waltzes around in risqué versions. According to Fredrik Karlén, then bassist in Merciless and now in Dreadful Fate, Fredda did not know how the picture he took of Pelle had ended up on the internet.
- Fredda had no idea. Maybe someone had gotten a copy. This is at Fredda's house in Fisksätra (a suburb south of Stockholm). What's so funny about the picture is that the alarm clock is set to half past three and they were waiting for me to come because there was going to be a party in the evening. I got there maybe half an hour later. Many people have their own picture of what Pelle was like, but for us Pelle was just as happy as in the picture. When he was with others, he could be a bit like that, wanting to pretend that he was Pelle Dead. When he was with us he was always funny and always had such sick comments about what they had done in Norway. He lived in a small camping cabin with like only one damn bed and lived on macaroni and ketchup. And then snuff (swedish tobacco) which he had to have money for. He had a crappy budget, I remember, which I think partly led to his depression. That the success of Mayhem wasn't what he thought, and that he had little money and ate badly. I remember that Pelle was thinner than usual this time. Then we went and had pizza and he took two pieces. "Uh, my stomach is so shrunk so you can have my pizza," he said to me. "We can have a competition where you get as fat as possible and I get as thin as possible because I want to look like a corpse. That's my goal." Then the whole league came there, a bunch of people like Jensa "Dr. Schitz" Näsström from Morbid, Nils Gullbrandsson (now running the club Fredagsmangel) and his best friend Rille and I think L-G Petrov was also there. Then Pelle probably went back to Norway. The last time I saw him was probably when Merciless, Tribulation and Kazjurol played in Norway in 1990. Then Øystein (Euronymous), Hellhammer and Pelle were there in Bergen and they brought Mayhem records with them. I have some pictures of us walking around town to buy beer but I can't find them. / Fredrik "Fredda” Lindgren
