Arioch more well known from from Funeral Mist and Marduk, here with Triumphator.
Here are some relics from the one and only live performance by Swedish black metal band Triumphator, circa January 11th, 2000. The lineup for this gig also included Watain, Rotting Christ, Arkhon Infaustus, Antaeus, Celestia and more. Triumphator was an absolutely incredible band featuring Arioch (aka Mortuus from Marduk / Funeral Mist) and Tena (Shadow records), but on this night also included Mork (Malign, Svartsyn, Werewolf etc) on guitar, Ornias (Svartsyn) on guitar and Draugen (Svartsyn, Dark Funeral) on drums. I feel that as time passes and we become further removed from the 1990s, there will be a shift in people’s musical appreciation and attention, especially in regards to music of the past. It is my estimation that someday the mid - late 90s Swedish black metal will be held in a similar regard to the early 90s black metal scene of Norway. Of course, I’m not comparing the two and one couldn’t have existed without the other in many ways. Bands like Ofermod, Funeral Mist, Watain, Triumphator and Malign were channeling something unimaginably powerful during this time. I should mention that there are some insane stories from this aforementioned show, but as I wasn’t there and don’t know the full details, I’ll leave that be.
