KNIGHTMARE ”MINDLESS MAYHEM” LP (1987)

GENRE: Heavy Metal
COUNTRY: US (Manchester, NH)
YEAR: 1987
STAND-OUT TRACK(S): Sonic Reducer

Knightmare was a New Hampshire-born hard rock and heavy metal band dating back to 1980, which sported graffiti instead of a logo. The group was formed by Al Mead - a GG Allin collaborator - and got progressively faster and heavier with an accelerating image reminiscent of At War. This Knightmare issued a 7” EP called Still Insane After All This Treatment in 1983 and The Battle From Within EP two years later. With no deal in sight the group’s next move was a demo in 1986 and 1987 and ultimately 1987’s album issued through the independent Beaner City. The album featured a cover of the Dead Boys’ Sonic Reducer, which had appeared on Overkill’s debut a year earlier. The band threw in the towel in 1990, but played a one-off show in 2001.

OPINION: When I see a cover like this, I can’t resist to pick it up. It reeks home-cooked all the way from the vinyl pressing plant. Juvenile lyrics, check! Homemade cover art, check!

Unfortunately the music is not more that okey in my book. Heavy Metal which sometimes more lean towards Punk. That the best track is a Dead Boys cover ”Sonic Reducer”, kind of says it all.
