Dec 7th, 1980. Lyceum Ballroom, London.
I was 18, standing in the sweat and smoke of the Lyceum Ballroom as Girlschool took the stage. Dedringer, Tank and Angel Witch had already set the night ablaze, each act a force in their own right—but it was the raw energy of Girlschool that stole the show.
And then… Lemmy. At the time just 34 years old.
Unannounced, unmistakable, and utterly electrifying.
Towards the end of the set, he strode on stage like he owned it—and maybe, in that moment, he did. The roar of the crowd said it all. The memory burned itself into my memory and never left.
That legendary collaboration with Girlschool would come the following year. But that night was one of those rare, perfect moments when the music, the time, and the place all align—and you just know you were lucky to be there.
