The brilliant Argentinian band V8 featured in the fanzine Metal Kommand from 1987. Here’s the original article and a translated to English version for you.
This is the first heavy metal band in Argentina, according to thousands of fans across the country (I think the same). Although everyone already knows their story, we have nothing to lose by telling it again. The band was formed in 1981, consisting of "PESADILLA" (GUSTAVO ROWECK) on drums, CHOFA on guitar, and RICKY IORIO on bass. By 1982, they were a quartet with the following lineup: Gustavo Roweck (drums), Alberto Zamarbide (vocals), Ricardo Ioric (bass), and Osvaldo Civile (guitar). They participated in "B.A. Rock '82," their first major appearance in front of a large audience, with parts of the performance being captured in the festival film. With the support of Pappo, they began playing in pubs and clubs, gaining a large following. In 1983, they recorded their debut album, "Fighting for Metal," on Umbral Records.
The songs "I'm Very Tired," "Bloody Parks," "Metal Brigades," and "Metal Times" were already being praised by fans, and the "Anthem" "DESTRUCCION," their best song, caused them a couple of problems (like in PLATENSE, since the club's gym was destroyed). They toured throughout Buenos Aires: Rosario, Santa Fe, the Federal Capital, and Greater Buenos Aires. With a concert at the OBRAS club, supporting BARON ROJO, 7 and 8 - October 1983, the group became the undisputed leader of the Argentine heavy metal movement. In July 1984, they began recording their second album: "UN PASO MAS EN LA BATALLA," also released on UMBRAL RECORDS.
The songs "CAUTIVO DE UN SISTEMA," "LANZADO AL MUNDO DE HOY," "CAMINO AL SEPULCRO," "CIERVOS DEL MAL," "ES EL MOMENTO DE FIGHT," and "DESEANDO DESTROIR Y MATAR" showcase an aggressive, strong, and Energetic, a thousand-per-hour engine that carries its motto: "DON'T GIVE UP." They play with PAPPO and BLOKE at OBRAS, officially presenting their 2nd LP, and the possibility of traveling to BRAZIL to present the material arises. There, the cauldron of discussions explodes, and 1985 begins with V8 splitting into two: RICKY and BETO on one side, and GUSTAVO and OSVALDO, who remain in BRAZIL trying their luck, but will later return to pursue their separate projects. At the end of 1985, V8 returns to the fray, renewed, and as a quintet: RICARDO IORIO (Bass), BETO ZAMARBIDE (Vocals), WALTER GIARDINO (Lead Guitar), MIGUEL ROLDAN (Athletic Guitar), and GUSTAVO ANDINO (Drums).
An explosive return to the BIBLIOTECA DE OLIVOS, presenting songs from their second album and some from their 2nd album. The band rejoined the band, but Walter Giardino left in early '86, and G. Andino was replaced by Adrian Senci (Drums) mid-year. Recording of their third album began, and it was ready before the end of the year, but due to problems with the recorder, this album, "El Fin de Los Inicuos," wasn't released until April '87. (INICUO INJUSTO) is the title, and it features a renewed V8, but with the same enthusiasm. The change is noticeable in the lyrics, but not in the music or the image (LEATHER and METAL). The highlights are "CIEGA AMBICION", "LA GRAN MARERA", "NO HE DE ENLOQUECER", and "ANTES QUE LOS VIEJOSREYES", with excellent work by BETO, RICKY, MIGUEL, and ADRIAN. The album was recorded and mixed at PANDA STUDIOS. The LP was presented at the PARAKULTURAL CENTER in December 1986, and throughout GRAN BOS.AS CAPITAL and ROSARIO during early 1987. LOB plans to act A possible visit to BRAZIL is expected, where the album was also released, and where the group has been very well-received. We'll keep you posted on the band's news in upcoming issues.
