VASTATOR (CHI) … A SHORT VERSION OF THE BANDS HISTORY

Vastator is one of the oldest Metal bands in Chile. Singer Rob Díaz, guitarist Sergio Bustamante, bass player Paquete Hormazabal and drummer Gerardo Barrenechea founded it in 1986. They play powerful Metal with high screams and great guitar! If you see a photo with them, with their painted faces you might think, they play Black Metal! But only the lyrics go in this direction and the music is true Metal at its best!
The first demo was released in 1987! There followed 2 more releases on cassette in end of the 80s. They received great reviews all over Chile and in other Latin American countries, but because of various problems the band split in beginning of the 90s. I guess one reason was, that no label was interested in releasing the great material officially!

In 1998 they reunited with the same line up, and one year later released a compilation of old and new material independent on CD. In 2002 followed the great album "The night of San Juan" on the label Ripper. The band is still very active, and have to this date released 3 albums and several live tapes.

METAL EROS / RAINER KRUKENBERG
The above text is from the legend Rainer Krukenberg and his
Metal Eros site, with some smaller changes and updates by me.

Rainer Krukenberg was for metal fans in Europe the go-to source when it came to South American metal, both through his site and his mailorder. There are countless hours I have spent with his lists, trying to decide on what to order. Since the covid epidemic it seems that he has vanished from the scene. I hope he’s in good health and well. To me he’s a legend, and I’m forever grateful for all the discoveries I made throughout the years because of him. As a tribute and a celebration of his work I will from time to time re-publish things on my blog. But all credits goes to Rainer Krukenberg.
