WITCH (SWE) … A SHORT BAND HISTORY

Witch was a metal band from Umeå formed by bassist Anders Hedman. During that time they recorded 3 demos and a live album. Influences were Iron Maiden and Ozzy Osbourne. Their first gig was in Obbola on February 18, 1982 as support for Mogg (Swe). In 2021 a compilation of their material was released by Cult Metal Classics on CD and vinyl. Also a reissue on tape of the ”Live in Obbola 1983” demo was released by Black Writs Records.

Witch had a crucified doll at one of their gigs which made people think they were devil worshippers which also meant they were banned from playing in certain places. There were some newspapers that wrote about this.

”Kill the Witch”, a track from the ”Live in Obbola” demotape.

Fun fact: Singer Henrik Kjellberg could sometimes be heard playing guitar and singing from the roof of Mariehemsskolan (a local high school) during his middle school days. How he got there and whether he was allowed to be there is not told in the story.

In 1984 they recorded a promo video for the song "Still Alive”. It’s fantastically homemade.

ON A STAGE SOMEWHERE IN TIME
I love this photos, I can really smell the 1980’s and feel the youthful passion of wanting to make it as a musician. And as always, if you have more information about the photos, please contact me.
