NITEFALL (US/OH) ”BLACK TOMORROW” [DEMO TAPE] (1990)

GENRE: Heavy Metal (with some Doom influences)
COUNTRY: US
YEAR: 1990
STAND-OUT TRACK(S): Death Reigns Here Alone, Black Tommorow

Heavy/doom metal band from Cleveland, Ohio. When Bryan Renken quit Severe Warning due to musical differences, the remaining three SW members (Ace the Raven on guitar and vocals, Dave Fox on drums and bass player Rocky Dicarlo who had just replaced Darrin Winne) changed the bands name to Nitefall in early 1990. There are two 4 song demos with limited local release, a 4-song promo, a cassette single that preceded them, a 3 song promo in early 1992, and several additional versions/promos/advance tapes, etc. In between the "Black Tomorrow" cassette single (1990) and "Waiting for Darkness" (1991) they released the song "Die For Destiny" on the "Distant Thunder: Sounds Of The Cleveland Metal Storm" compilation (1990) and released a small promo run of copies of their 4-song debut "Black Tomorrow". The final pressing however never happened and its artwork and inlay layout was later reused and became the cover/inlay of "Waiting For Darkness". Split up in mid-1994, but briefly reunited to record a final 4 song demo of some of their later material "The Balance", "Crime: Existence, Penalty: Death", "Island of Courage... Sea of Despair", and "Dawn of Infinity (Initio Infinitum... The Beginning of Forever)" at Mars Studios, but disbanded again in December 1995, before it could be completed.

Advance/promo of the 4-song Nitefall debut. One small run was produced and given out at a single show in June, 1990, as well as through a limited mailorder-only promotion before the show. However, after this the final large-scale pressing (which would have been mostly identical, except with a fold-out lyric insert) never happened and the songs were never released again until the "Red Moon Rising" compilation CD, except "Die for Destiny" which was released on the "Distant Thunder: Sound of the Cleveland Metal Storm" compilation in late November, 1990.

Pro-pressed/pro-printed tapes and covers. White shells with printed labels on both sides. Inlay has band photo, lineup, credits, and contact info.

The cover artwork and inlay were later recycled to create the cover and inlay of the "Waiting for Darkness" demo.

Recording information:
Recorded in May 1990 at Clockworke Sound Studio, except "Black Tomorrow" which was recorded in April 1990 during the sessions for the "Black Tomorrow" single (a different version from the single appears on this demo).
