Heavy Metal Massacre was a Swedish fanzine written in Swedish, but here’s an translated article for you.
SYRON VANESSYRON VANES was formed in Malmö in August 1982 by Andy Seymore and Stephen Mavrock. They soon got another guitarist, Rimmy Wrixer was his name. The problem was finding a good bassist and singer. They tried several but they didn't get anyone they wanted. After six months they had only played a couple of gigs so it looked like they were going to have to call it quits. Rix Volin, the leader of the band HIGH LEVEL, was looking for something new at the same time because High Level wasn't the right band for him. He then joined Syron Vanes. Now the guys started rehearsing day and night to try to become the best band in the world. Their first gig was a huge success. The new line-up seemed to be perfectly put together with:
RIMMY WRIXER: guitar and vocals
ANDY SEYMORE: guitar
STEPHEN MAVROCK: drums
RIX VOLIN: bass and vocals.
They were immediately asked to be on a Swedish compilation album. They were also invited to an outdoor festival in Hamburg. During the fall of 83 they played in Germany, Denmark and Sweden. The band has had problems getting a chance to play here in Sweden due to a riot during one of their concerts. The audience made the band play one more song and they did. But the audience was still so wild that the police had to be called to stop them from destroying the venue.
SYRON VANES hopes to get a record deal in the near future so that everyone will have a chance to hear them. They also hope that they can go on a real tour during the year. They have released a 4-song demo that they recorded in Malmö 83 and that they produced themselves. The songs were written by Andy Seymore and Rimmy Wrixer.
The band themselves say that they do not play Swedish HM like Heavy Load, Europe, EF Band and Thrash. they think it's far too commercial, they themselves consider themselves to be playing the early version of NWOBHM that Maiden, Saxon and Leppard played in 1980. They never intend to "ruin" their music with keyboards or the like.
Now to Demon and their music. They play quite varied but still sizzling HM. SUICIDE is a sizzling song with some unnecessary breaks. It's short snappy riffs and pounding drums that matter. A very good song. RUNNING MILD is the best song on the tape. It's a song in 340 beats with a lot of guitar playing at times. The riff and drums are good here too. NO MERCY is a tricky song that doesn't fit in here at all. The guitar is quite Hendrix-influenced at times but there are still heavy riffs. (METAL) FOREVER starts with the drums and a riffy guitar. Good chorus in the chorus and decent sizzling is a big plus.
A young and promising Swedish HM band.
