SODOM
Something's happening with SODOM, one of the most controversial hardcore bands ever: a dispute with Frank Terstegen, possibly a record deal, etc. So it's probably time to do a report or something similar on SODOM. The following interview, which was conducted with the help of Sven Clasen, covers general questions about the group as well as current topics.
BK: What do you honestly have against HELLHAMMER?
Angel Ripper: HELLHAMMER, together with RUNNING WILD, made sure we weren't included on the "Noise Records" sampler.
BK: "Rock From Hell"?
AR: Yes. We were actually supposed to be on "Death Metal" too, but they spoke out against us. They said we were children, etc.

AR: Yes. We were actually supposed to be on "Death Metal" too, but they spoke out against us. They said we were children, etc.
Witch Hunter: We thought it was a total mess.
BK: How did the split with Frank Terstegen come about?
WH: Frank was actually really good, but he had a bit of a shady attitude. He tried to play Angel Ripper off against me and vice versa. He always wanted to kick one of us out and then hypocritically work with the other. He constantly put us down, saying, for example, that Angel Ripper couldn't play bass and so on. Now only two things help: either him or us. So we fired him.
BK: When can we expect a demo or an LP from you?
AR: An LP won't be out for at least a year. But now we'll first release a sampler, and if that does well, we'll be picked up by the record company. As soon as we have the money, we'll make a demo, but one with a great sound!!!
BK: Why did you call your style of music "Witching Metal"?
AR: Because our lyrics mostly deal with witch burnings and the witch's hammer and such...
WH: Witches are our very special area anyway.

WH: Witches are our very special area anyway.
AR: To be fair, Frank came up with that idea, but we think it's pretty good this way. "Witching Metal" somehow fits.
BK: Where do the ideas for your lyrics come from? Do you draw inspiration from films, books, or the like?
WH: We mostly come up with it ourselves. Personally, I've always been interested in satanic things, witches, etc. But we also read books and watched horror films.

BK: What did you do before the SODOM project?
AR: I wasn't really that into music back then.
WH: I'd played with other people before. But it wasn't as hard and fast as SODOM, more in the direction of hard rock.
BK: Do you think that more and more young bands are playing black metal to perhaps become known faster?
AR: No. If someone plays black metal, it'sa matter of attitude.
WH: Exactly, because then they're behind it.
BK: Now back to the upcoming LP: Do you already have a cover idea?
AR: We thought we could make the lettering similar to STEELER's. The Capricorn, the symbol of evil, will also be printed very large on the cover.
BK: ...the pentagram?
AR: No, not the pentagram, just the Capricorn.

WH: The pentagram idea is already too worn out. Every band has something like that on their cover. We want to do something different.
AR: The LP will be called "Witching Metal”!

BK: What do you think of fanzines?
WH: I think it's really good that there are so many fanzines now. Back in the day, there was only "Popcorn," "Pop Rocky," "Bravo," and other such shit, which once in a blue moon included a snippet about MOTÖRHEAD, MAIDEN, or PRIEST. Now, people are much better informed. It started with "Aardschok," then more and more amateur magazines came along, and everything has become more professional. I'm happy when I can read something about one band or another.
BK: What kind of music do you listen to privately?
AR: VENOM, SLAYER, MOTÖRHEAD. MOTÖRHEAD!!! WH: VENOM, SLAYER, EXCITER, and also METALLICA. I also quite like MOTORHEAD.
BK: Isn't the idea for the names a bit borrowed from Cronos, Mantas, and Abaddon?
AR: In a way, everything is borrowed from VENOM. They started the musical genre, too. The name SODOM is It's similar: It has five letters like the name VENOM. Besides, it sounds stupid when you're on stage and say, "And on bass, Thomas Such!" Angel Ripper or Witch Hunter sounds much better.

BK: What does the future hold?
AR: Release an LP, play gigs, and never work again!
WH: I'd like to make a name for myself as a drummer with SODOM.
BK: By the way, what will your stage show be like?
AR: Release an LP, play gigs, and never work again!

AR: Satanically good...
WH: Nothing to add!
AR: Bomb explosions, rapes, witch burnings...
BK: Okay, do you have a few more words for our readers?
SODOM: We hope, of course, that our fans will stay with us and that more will join us. We'll definitely continue and will tour as soon as we have a permanent guitarist.
