WATAIN ”WALLS OF LIFE RUPTURED” (GRAND, UPPSALA, SWEDEN, 1999)

Rare early footage of Swedish Black Metal veterans Watain playing live in their home city of Uppsala. As you may notice, Erik was also handling the live bass duties during this era, which shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise as he has played bass on a majority of their albums. The energy and direction this band had from the very beginning is incredible. I’ve heard whispers that this video comes from the same gig as their “Black Metal Sacrifice” live demo, but this track doesn’t match up to my ears, leaving me to believe it’s from a different show.

Wow did not expect to see video of this concert. Me an my friend Marcus took the train from Väsby to attend this event. Funny to see the video. Close to the stage you can see  the fans headbanging, exactly as I remembered. But the "grand" was no way near sold out on this occasion. Being a bit fatigued from having to resort to traveling to Uppsala on the state run railroads, my friend and I focused on the bar. If I remeber correct there was three bands playing and Watain was the last. Watain was the best band. Long boring story short, we had a good time, we were surprised how good the band Watain was. Ended up buying a Watain shirt in the bar, which I still have to this day. Brings pleasent memorys back, I wish there was a video of Excruciate's live perfomance at Väsby gården, one of the highlights of my days in school.Cheers!
