MORBID ANGEL (INSANITY #1, 1987) < TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH

Insanity was a fanzine from Chile, written in Spanish. Here is an interview translated to English.

MORBID ANGEL (US)

Morbid angel is one of the best groups in the underground scene, and soon with the release of their debut "Abominations" they will become a favorite of many fans; that is why we bring you an interview with their leader, guitarist "Trey Azagthoth".

Insanity: Why did you change your line-up and leave Florida?
Trey: the old members weren't working. Richard and I went to North Carolina to regroup with David Vincent and Wayne Hartsell. Now we also have a manager (Mark Anderson) who is getting us new equipment and is going to take us to New York to record. I love this new line-up.

I: Why did you decide not to release your LP? "Abominations of desolation?
T: The drums and bass were very weak, and that's why the lp was missing heaviness and brutality.

I: What reactions did you receive for the tape of that LP?
T: We received many letters from people who really liked it. We know the LP is going to be so much better.
I: What will your vinyl debut be?
T: We're going to call our first vinyl "Abominations." it's going to have 8 tracks: "Blasphemy of the holy ghost," "Damnation," "Abominations," "Bleed for the devil," "Chapel of ghouls," "Welcome to hell," "Unholy blasphemies," "Lord of all fevers and plague." We're going to release a demo tape of some of the songs.

I: Your image has been criticized quite a bit; what do you think about this?
T: What image?... There is no image, we're real.

I: What do you think of death metal bands that just follow the trend?
T: I've actually never thought much about that. I think a lot of bands sound the same... It doesn't worry me.

I: Are you going to move to New York? Have you received any offers to play shows there?
T: We're going there to record our LP there, then we plan to play this finished album everywhere.

I: Where are you going to live?
T: Probably in New York. We'll be there at least until april.

I: What else do you have planned for the future?
T: Videos, more LPs, tours... everything.

I: Do you think you could get a contract with a bigger label?
T: That's what our manager is working on... I don't want to be on a small label.

I: What's a morbid angel show like?
T: Madness, chaos, and insanity... It's blasphemous evil... It's a ceremony of darkness.

I: Would you like to play in South America?
T: ...Fuck yes... We want to play everywhere.

I: Do you know any South American bands, like Sepultura?
T: yeah... I like Sepultura and Mutilator... They destroy. (I recently listened to Pentagram, and I found it great... Ed.)

I: Last words
T: We're against conformity... "Do what you want; that shall be the whole of the law". You're sure everyone's going to like our new LP and we hope to see you on tour...

I: thanks trey for the interview and remember we're hungry for "Abominations".
