This is a tiny insight for you youngsters how it was to be into Metal in the 80’s. It was outsider music, you dressed different, you had your hair in any non-socially acceptable way, you put your patches on your jacket and you were good to go. Anything to show that I’m not you, I decided over my own life, I choose different!
1980’s HEAVY METAL MEMORIES, BY THOSE WHO LIVED IT:
Back in 1986, my team filmed a local heavy-metal hard-core band in Belfast Maine called Hatred (later they became the band Weapons). The band members were wonderfully articulate teenagers heavily influenced by Metallica, Motley Crue, Black Flag, Slayer, Exodus and others. They had dropped out of school and were competing in a battle of the bands competition. I didn't understand Heavy Metal at the time but I found these young men expressive – good folk. Some time ago I posted an interview with lead singer head banger Eddie and his mom debating whether or not this music was the music of Satan. The interview is very popular with my YouTube audience and so I have posted this video to further tell their story and give a sense of their experience with the music and the local people in Maine who had come to hear their band and others. At the end of this video, Eddie remembers back on that time from December 2020.
