BEFORE TESTAMENT WAS TESTAMENT!

LEGACY came out of Oakland, California in 1983. They continued with this name until 1987 when they changed it to TESTAMENT. The reason behind the name change was the band couldn't release the album as Legacy because that name was already taken and registered by a jazz band, and therefore Legacy has since continued as Testament.

There was precisely one show played as Legacy with Chuck Billy on vocals in July of 1986 before the name change. Legacy's final show took place on March 4th, 1987 at The Stone in San Francisco, just one month prior to the release of Testament's first album The Legacy. They later played a one-off gig at Thrash of the Titans festival in 2001.

Derrick Ramirez originally handed both guitar and vocals, but switched solely to guitar when Zetro joined.

They released one demo tape (the one here down below) in 1985 with Steve Souza on vocals, Alex Skolnik and Eric Petersen on guitar, Greg Christian on bass and Mike Ronchette on drums.
