Metalmania was a heavy metal music festival in Central Europe. It was held annually from 1986 to 2009, and returned in 2017.
The festival in 1987 is probably the most well documented one when it comes to the music. It was held in Katowice, Poland during the communist reign in eastern Europe. Each day kicked off 4-5 Polish bands before the international ones took to the stage.
First Day: Hammer, Destroyer, Turbo, TSA, Overkill, Running Wild, Helloween
Second Day: Dragon, Stos, Wolf Spider, Open Fire, Kat, Overkill, Running Wild, Helloween
After the festival there was a series of three split albums recorded live at the festival in 1987. Each of the three albums contains short performances by two bands, so altogether 6 bands got one side each. Wilczy Pająk, Dragon, Hammer, Destroyer, Open Fire & Stos.
Also in 1987 there was a cassette released with tracks from most of the above mentioned bands, but also included were Kat and Turbo, two of the most known names outside Poland today. One of several Polish compilation cassettes released in the late 80's, promoting the national scene. The sound is a bit muffled, but the energy is there and we get some awesome tracks like the one down below by the mighty Turbo.
