It was basically a cage suspended above the drum kit and when the curtains opened (yes we had curtains) we were all in the cage and as we began playing ‘You Always See What You Want To See’ we came down metal stairs to the stage. But that wasn’t the original idea. We had asked our lighting company to design a giant tigers head that we could put the drum kit in. When we arrived at their warehouse to see the finished product Brian dutifully got behind the kit whilst we all watched waiting for the lights to go up. When they did illuminate the scene we didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. The tiger looked suspiciously like a giant pussy cat. We couldn’t look at each other until Rocky broke the silence with ’You have got to be joking…’. Unfortunately they weren’t. The fibre glass tiger was ditched and as it was just days until we began touring they had to come up with something quickly – enter The Cage. We were told that the giant pussy cat was pressed into service as their bike shed!
We have very few photos from that tour but here is one of Mr Weir with Mr Riddles from Tytan somewhere on that tour who were our special guests.
