Blitzkrieg was a German fanzine during the 1980’s written in German. But here’s a translated interview for you.
SATAN'S PHARYNX are already among the more "well-known" black metal bands in Germany, thanks to their two demos and various fanzine reviews. The four-man lineup has existed for three years now with its unchanged lineup: Ralf Kuhnekath (vocals), Christian Büttner (guitar), Peter Beck (bass), and Nils Geller (drums). Although the band has often been compared to VENOM during their quite successful performances in Moers and the surrounding area, their two demos clearly demonstrate that they have developed their own style. The first of their two demos contains 20 tracks and an intro, which immediately demonstrate what characterizes SATAN'S PHARYNX's style: Ralf Kuhnekath's vocals, sometimes aggressive and hectic, then calm and melodic, and Christian Büttner's rather idiosyncratic, sometimes bordering on chaotic guitar work! Unfortunately, this demo was nothing more than a "musical inventory for home use," so it's very difficult to obtain today. It's a shame, because I think it contains many songs worth listening to (e.g., "Hard Stuff," "Outlaws," "The Beginning of the Tough Age," "Satan's Seeds," "Fortune Message," etc.).
Satan's Pharynx: Gate to Hades
Like the beginning of "Fortune Message" (bass & guitar), other parts of the songs are also somewhat reminiscent of punk, which sounds quite interesting here! The second demo, titled "Gate to Hades," consists of two new tracks and five reworked old tracks from the first tape. It's better both in terms of quality and music, although the tracks aren't quite as fast as in the original version. The typical SATAN'S PHARYNX sound has been retained, despite the improved production. The demo begins with the title track, which consists of a slow and a fast section that alternate repeatedly. This is followed by "Satan's Pharynx,” which I like it a bit better than its predecessor. "Temples Of Genocide," which wasn't included on the first demo, starts off quite quietly, then speeds up and develops musically similarly to the other two tracks. This is followed by "Damned Deeds" and "Sexual Intercourse," which wasn't included on the first tape either. This song is the exact opposite of the others: It's slow, quiet, contains no fast breaks, and gets boring pretty quickly. Not my thing! "Angel Ripper," however, completely compensates for that. I already noticed this song pleasantly on the first demo. For me, this is clearly one of the best SATAN'S PHARYNX tracks! ”Take Your Chance" concludes the fairly good demo, which, while not earth-shattering, still seems recommendable to me.

Here are a few more questions for the band:
BLITZKRIEG: Who are you influenced by?
Here are a few more questions for the band:
BLITZKRIEG: Who are you influenced by?
SATAN'S PHARYNX: I don't think you can really call it influence. In my opinion, we have our own style.
BLITZKRIEG: What do you think of HELLHAMMER and SODOM?
SATAN'S PHARYNX: It's difficult to say anything about that, as I've heard their names many times, but haven't heard a word from the bands themselves.
BLITZKRIEG: Are you performing live soon? It's always problematic with bands like these!

BLITZKRIEG: Are you performing live soon? It's always problematic with bands like these!
SATAN'S PHARYNX: That is indeed problematic! We simply don't have the right audience here. We have a ton of eco-freaks and grain-eaters who like bap or Antengelo Branduardi. So, as a heavy band, performing here is a bit of a challenge.
BLITZKRIEG: Are you occultists or Satanists—or is it all primarily an image?
SATAN'S PHARYNX: It's pointless to answer that, because if we tell the truth, namely that we're Satanists, no one usually believes us anyway. Therefore, we haven't cared whether people believe us or not for a long time. We know what we are!
BLITZKRIEG: Do you already have contacts with record companies?
SATAN'S PHARYNX: Not yet, except for "Noise Records."
BLITZKRIEG: What are your future plans?
SATAN'S PHARYNX: The biggest plan for the future is to make so much money with the noise we produce that we don't need to work anymore!
